Monday, January 28th, 2008

Amazon is set to open its mp3 ’store’ to the international audience in 2008. Amazon sells DRM-free mp3 music from all four major music labels -> Universal, Sony BMG, EMI & Warner. Typically, Amazon has the largest catalog of DRM-free mp3 music, much more than Apple iTunes shop.

This move brings another level of competition to online mp3 stores and we foresee consumers will have much to gain from the beginning of battle for the online mp3 market.

Free Acrobat PDF creater

Saturday, January 26th, 2008

Acrobat PDF file is one of the most popular files in the computer world. Few of the main reasons is

  • As compared to other file format, the size of a PDF file is much smaller with the same content
  • Acrobat PDF reader can be downloaded free from Adobe
  • PDF file is not editable by your recipient. Even though with the full Acrobat Software, the PDF file can be edited, access control can be use to prevent the file from being edit

Now only question now is without the full Acrobat Software, how do we create PDF files from say  Microsoft Word? For Apple computer owners like myself, there is a built in PDF printer default in the Operating System.  YES! (more…)

Facebook for Children by BBC

Friday, January 25th, 2008

BBC announce that they will be launching a facebook style social site for children. The target market group is children between 6 years old to 12 years old.

Backlash from the public is that publicly-funded BBC should concentrate on making programmes and not making web sites.

BBC replied that the social networking site is to encourage children to talk about their shows and at the same time, improve the kid’s internet skills.

Whats next? Youtube for children? Google for ladies only?

Creating categories to store your blog post properly

Sunday, January 20th, 2008

Here are a few categories type which I apply on my blog in order to start to store my blog post in a proper manner:

  • Formal categories types. Example is types of blog post, is it a business post, consumer post, crappy post. Which market the blog post caters to, travel, food etc
  • Characteristics of blog post( cool, dark side, sexy, funny, complains etc)
  • Meaning of your blog post. Is there a message you want to bring across.
  • Date/time of your blog post

This is important so that your readers know where to find the relevant content. So start organizing your thoughts for your blog’s categories

Categories vs tags for WordPress

Saturday, January 19th, 2008

After 1 month since the launch of mobile.islikethat.com, I have been creating many blog posts. I thought I did a good job in carefully placing the post into categories and tags. Well, I was wrong. I have not been creating categories and tags properly related to the way i would like to organize my content.

The idea of categories is a more hierarchy way to store your post. I would be using categories as the main sections of my site. The categories will contain not more than 10. This will allow my blog contents to be more focus on the topics

For tagging, it is the in thing for blog site. So we tag a post with a related word(s) that best describe this particular post. I prefer to use the tag as the sub section of my site. So for each category, I have many tags. And each post can have more then 1 tag.

Oh. As of now, WordPress does not provide by default a page in the admin to manage your tags. So visit here to download the Simple Tags plugin.

Example here on how i organize my categories and tags on mobile.islikethat.com (more…)
