5 important details to note when making a phone reservation for hotel room
For my previous trip to Thailand, I have no choice but to make an overseas phone call to the hotel for room reservation. I was only a few days away from my trip and not yet make any hotel bookings. If I go through their website or via email, I will not be able to receive my confirmation in time before I leave. I presume that like myself, you know the standard room rates of the hotel you are planning to reserve.
So these are a 5 important details to note when making a phone reservation for a hotel room.
- Remember the name of the staff who process the transaction over the phone
- Ask for the confirmation number of the hotel reservation
- Ask the staff to send you an email of the confirmation and the room rates. Trust me, it can happen when they will charge you a different rate when you check in due to ‘misunderstanding’
- Some will ask for your credit card number to reserve the room. Use a credit card company who offers good protection against unauthorizes misuse of your credit card. I heard some credit card companies offers less hassle for this protection plan. I hope not to have the chance for this issue.
- If it is your first time to this hotel, ask for more information about the hotel such as how long from airport, how to get to the hotel, color of hotel…Remember to print out a map of the hotel location and also record down their front desk phone number. Once the taxi driver drop me off at a wrong place and I could not find the location of my hotel. Luckily I had the hotel’s front desk number so I was able to ask for direction.
Just my 5 cents of helpful tips to make sure your hotel reservation is secure ![]()
