Mobile is like that

Do you always think of your Grandma? I do. My Grandma pass away peacefully in her sleep last year on this exact date 5 January 2007. I manage to see her and tasted her cooking on 4 January, the day before she left. Lucky might be a too simple word to use, I would say thank god I was able to see her. You see, I was away for holiday and nearly wanted to extend my stay. However as I have class on 4 January, I decide to come back. On that day, she called and ask me to go to her house for dinner on that day I said no and put down the phone as I might not have enough time to do so. After thinking that I have not seem her since my holiday, I called her back and said I be there.

Reach her house, shake her hand(I always do that with her, like businessman), talk and went straight to eat. Was in a rush to school and when i finish, I have to go. Went off and bid her goodbye while she close the door and that was the last time I saw her alive.

4 or 5am in the morning of 5 January while I was sleeping, I thought I heard my handphone ring but could not wake up to listen. Then suddenly my mum shouted and i woke up and she told me my aunt called and said my Grandma is not moving. I jump up of my bed and put on my t-shirt and ran out of my house. My house is about 5 streets away from my grandma’s. I just ran and ran and ran and ran and when I reach, I see my Grandma lying on bed motionless and my aunt crying. I called her and shake her shoulder continuously but no response. Then the ambulance came. At that moment of time, somehow I felt that she has really left us. Sad as I am but I am glad she pass away peacefully in her sleep.

She is a good Grandma to me. When I was young, she took care of me, bring me to school, cooks for me, have to ‘ block’ for me when my parents want to cane me…so many more. And she always tell people that I am very ‘guai’ meaning like good boy. hehe

Have I been a good grandson? I would say yes. I brought her out for dinner only a few times. She never likes to go out and I have to ’scold’ her than she will go. She also ate at Sake Sushi and compare her steam egg against the chawanmushi. Hehe. Sometimes, I will buy lunch for her and she like the Yong dao wu which i buy. Only thing I regret is not able to bring her overseas for holiday.
Every now and then, when I see somebody’s Grandma, I will think of my Grandma. When I see Grandma begging on the streets, my heart will grow weak as they reminds me of her and I will make a donation.

Although she is not physically around, she will always be on my mind.
